Waking two or more times nightly to urinate is not a normal part of aging. It is a symptom — and identifying the underlying cause is the first step to a real solution.
Common causes
- Benign prostatic hyperplasia (men).
- Overactive bladder.
- Nocturnal polyuria (your kidneys make too much urine at night).
- Sleep apnea — frequently overlooked.
- Medications, especially evening diuretics.
Treatment options
Behavioural changes (fluid timing, evening salt restriction), medication adjustments, and treatment of the underlying cause can dramatically reduce nighttime trips. Newer regenerative options for bladder and prostate symptoms have expanded the toolkit considerably.
