Meet Dr. Teshima

Dr. Tara Teshima

Dr. Teshima graduated from the University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine in 2008,
and subsequently completed her residency training in Plastic and Reconstructive
Surgery at the University of Alberta in 2013.

Professional Credentials

Recognitions

  • She has been the recipient of numerous awards for her clinical, academic, and research work, and is the author of several peer-reviewed publications.
  • In 2019 she completed the Global Surgical Leadership program at Harvard Medical School and is the lead for on-line education for AOCMF North America.

Background

  • Prior to medical school, she completed a Masters degree in Virology.
  • Dr. Teshima then pursued fellowship training in Adult Craniofacial Trauma, at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

Professional Experience

  • She joined Markham Stouffville Hospital and the University of Toronto in 2015. Her clinical focus is on craniofacial trauma and reconstruction, skin cancer, adult vascular malformations, and cosmetic rejuvenation of the face.
  • Dr. Teshima has a passion for medical education and is currently the lead for senior resident education for the plastic surgery residents at the University of Toronto.
  • Dr. Teshima has volunteered and been on 9 medical missions to Ukraine and Poland since 2013 to help wounded soldiers with facial injuries and is dedicated to global health.
