Asian Rhinoplasty: Anatomy, Goals, and Identity-Preserving Technique

Cited Research

Asian rhinoplasty is fundamentally a procedure of augmentation rather than reduction. Where Western rhinoplasty often removes a dorsal hump, Asian rhinoplasty more commonly builds a refined dorsum and projects the tip — using the patient's own cartilage whenever possible.

Cartilage grafts vs. implants

Autologous cartilage (from the septum, ear, or rib) integrates with the body and carries far lower long-term complication risk than silicone implants. Modern technique strongly favors cartilage.

Identity is the goal

A successful result harmonizes with the rest of the patient's face — it does not announce itself as 'a nose job', and certainly not as a Western nose grafted onto an Asian face.
