Lip Lift vs. Lip Filler: The Permanent Alternative Patients Are Choosing

Cited Research

Filler made beautiful lips accessible to everyone. It also created a generation of patients who, ten years and a dozen syringes later, are looking for something more permanent — and more refined.

What a subnasal lip lift does

A bullhorn-shaped strip of skin is removed from the base of the nose. The upper lip is lifted by 4–6 mm, exposing more pink lip ('vermilion show'), shortening the long upper lip that develops with age, and restoring a youthful tooth show on smiling.

Why surgical patients are not the same as filler patients

A lip lift gives you more of the lip you already have. Filler gives you a lip that is not yours. Patients in their 40s and 50s with elongated upper lips often achieve a more natural result with a lift than with any volume of product.

Recovery

Sutures out at 5–7 days. Pinkness in the scar fades by week 6 and is essentially invisible by month 3, hidden beneath the nasal sill.
