Dermatofibroma: The Firm Bump on Your Leg That Won't Go Away

Cited Research

Dermatofibromas are firm, button-like nodules most often found on the legs. They are completely benign but can be tender, cosmetically annoying, or repeatedly nicked while shaving.

When removal makes sense

  • Persistent symptoms (itch, tenderness, snagging).
  • Diagnostic uncertainty.
  • Cosmetic concern.

Procedure

Surgical excision under local anesthetic. Because they extend deep into the dermis, full excision leaves a small linear scar. Patients should know this in advance.
