A lipoma is a benign collection of mature fat cells under the skin. Most are slow-growing, painless, and harmless. Removal is recommended when they grow, become painful, restrict movement, or simply bother the patient cosmetically.
What happens in clinic
Local anesthetic infiltration. A short incision over the lipoma. The mass is shelled out intact and the incision closed with absorbable or removable sutures. Most patients drive themselves home.
